The Gap Between Pink and Blue

Undiminishing. Unreceding. As untrue as it sounds, however, how many of us can proudly take a stance in disapproval of the alarming issue of gender disparity? Nearly none. Right! Every person knowingly or unknowingly has felt the presence of this social drawback. Gender discrimination doesn’t just limit to girls or guys in particular, rather is something experienced by millions in some or the other chapter of life. ‘Ladies first or boys will be boys’ isn’t something surprising for our ears. Even though we have known for ages that these phrases are doing nothing but appending the distance created by the social norms and customs between guys and girls yet here we are, sitting idly, doing nothing but gulping our beverages and staring at the screens.

You all know what happens when a girl gets her first period or when a guy’s facial hair grows. Right there, at that very moment the gap between pink and blue emerges. While everyone’s concerned about the ‘mera ladka/ladki bada/badi ho gayi hai’ part the actual point is always kept concealed. The actual concern commences when silence is the only thing tossing between both the genders. Guys aren’t able to convey their feelings to their female friends and vice-versa happens. Puberty is the stage when the gender disparity is at its peak. Mothers are seriously concerned about the safety of their daughters and fathers about the freedom given to their sons.

Even if the guy isn’t involved in the ‘wrong’ stuff classified by the society, just because of the peer pressure and in the attempt of portraying oneself as a 'cool kid' he's compelled to take the wrong track. That’s when the idea of drugs and rapes come in mind. Just to prove one point guys agree on spoiling their families’ reputation and breaking their trust. Rather in the same age, a girl is kept inside the four boundaries of the house, unknown of the reality, just to safeguard her from these 'cool guys'. This is the gap between pink and blue. Because of those few guys, these few girls don’t get the opportunity to explore and break free. Many readers will still claim that the ratio of such girls is nearly negligible however; if you want the exact statistics it is 34,000  out of 86,000,000 women in 2015, that too only in India, who have a registered FIR against rape. If we actually take into account the unregistered cases then maybe no-one will ever be able to look at themselves in the mirror.

So after reading this, I think you’ll be able to understand the concealed reason behind this gap between pink and blue and will try to comprehend the problem that every female goes through. I am not asking you to pity them rather understand their struggles. It’s something only guys can help me through.  Whenever you see such insecurities growing in your son, colleague or any random stranger then try to console them and not fuel the fire.
